Hi guys, I just got back today from Camp College. It was a pretty interesting experience so I thought I would share it with you all. I got a roommate and didn't know who it would be and they meant for it to be like that because that's how its going to be like in college. My roommate was nice but we didn't spend much time in our rooms because we had so much activities to do. Okay, we'd be up by 6:45 in the morning and out by 7:15 so we'd do all we had to, brush teeth, dress, etc and we'd be back in our rooms by 11:00. I had fun even with all the stuff we did because we learned alot. I missed the kids from my job a little at the beginning and thought of them so I kind of wanted to be there instead on friday but when I got there I met alot of nice people.
I won't bore you with all the details but we got to take two "stimualated" college classes, I didn't feel it was exactly realistic because it was only a day and the lessons were a bit jumpy. Afterwards though we also learned alot about the proccess and all the scholarships that were available. Anyways completing the FAFSA is MUCHO important, and getting it done on time. We did a game were we all recieved a different student, and if your student didn't complete the FAFSA on time, even if it was completed it, it would cut up a large part of the scholarship money you could have received. I feel like this is something important because alot of people are worrying about how they're going to pay for it, so they had a class on that. We also met admission officers, they were the mentors of our group. Meeting them made me see they were people because before I always just saw them as someone who were just going to evaluate them and they're actually fun people and not as I thought they were going to be.
Really what I remember most is the people and the activities we did together. We went bowling as a group. Had alot of get to know you activities and ice breakers with our groups. So everyone was comfortable talking to everyone else right from the start. We had a party on Saturday, there was no dirty dancing lol, people did the electric slide and dances like that and kept it clean for the most part. I played Cranium with Regina and found a group of people to join us. What a party animal I am lol. I ate two vanilla ice-cream scoops and started to get pretty competitive. It was funny because at this one part my teammate, got a cloodle and had to draw buffalo wings and she drew this pig/cow thing and I was supposed to guess but had no idea what it was. I thought it was pork wings, chicken wings, cow wings, and couldn't get it. The buffalo had a snout! That was funny because she started gesturing wildly at the pig snout and I thought it was pig wings.
We were split into eight groups and here are the team names-
Group 1- #1
Group 2- Deuces
Group 3- Triple Threat (that's mine!)
Group 4- Fantastic Four
Group 5- High Five
Group 6- Six in the Mix
Group 7- 007
Group 8- Crazy Eights
Our groups even created our own chants and it was decided on our own and not forced upon us so everyone got into the spirit. My group had alot of cool people and it was the 10th anniversary of camp college. Our mentor said that our group was by far the best group she ever had. She said she's not the type of person to BS so I believe her and I think that's pretty cool. The director said the same thing about the whole group that came this year. We did a skits at the end. All the skits were hilarious. I laughed alot. It was alot of fun and I was surprised that the skits came out so good. And that was my Camp College Experience, I enjoyed it alot, so I hope you enjoyed reading my long long post about it :]
